Smooth

A great skater has the ability to skate over what we used to call, kinks. Take a crap line, let the weird things happen, and roll out. If you can do that with style, that's the key.

I always judged skaters (prehistoric and current) by how good they look in the air. Watch the right skater, they always know where they are. They don't flail. They see the landing without looking for it.

Right now my vision is riddled with Jersey barriers, and ledges with big, metal, brackets bolted into them. I have never been good at hiding my disdain. I need to learn.

It's all about flow. Move through the landscape and make it look good. I am trying to find a good line. I hope I pull it.

I'm just guessing but this is a metaphor, right, Brother WB?

Yes, Sister Moon. I have been thinking about those Zen riddles and trying to apply them to things I understand.
In thru the nose.... out thru the mouth......cleansing breath.

It's easy to tell which skateboarders surfed prior to skateboarding, and likewise vice versa.

Smooth has it by a mile.

I just wish I could GET IN THE AIR.

I don't skate (or surf). On a MTB I flail around like a fish out of water, and I haven't found a "good line" since I was 19 hanging out at Bullwinkles.

My idea of a good line is:

"If you take me home I will eat all your food and sneak out before morning."

Also from Bullwinkles.

Mine is:
"Got any Irish in you? Do you want some in you?"

I find it is all about not thinking, just being. If you are skiing or MTBing and you start to think, you are screwed. I try (flailingly) to live my life this way. Don't look where you don't want to go and keep breathing. In through the nose out through the mouth. God I need to get on my bike!-Geo.

It is a very tough place to get into. I think your body and brain start to sense differences in rythm and the tension starts. That's when having grace under pressure must really be a great skill. I am always amazed at how when it flows, you can do no wrong and when its bad, it takes all you can do to strip away the non- essential and get centered.
These thingS are best pursued (for me) alone. Then you can try to apply them to life with others.
The hardest place to apply it is traffic!

I'm so sorry. I apologize in advance for this, but one of the WEIRDEST lines I ever got was also from Bullwinkle's. The guy looked at me and said, "Are you as smart as you look?"
This was not nearly as flattering as the time I was standing in Bullwinkle's (someone needs to post about Bullwinkle's, obviously) and a guy came in, looked at me, stopped dead in his tracks and said, "My God. You are just so beautiful."
Golly. Nothing like that has happened in so long.
So very, very long.

And Bro WB- that Irish line? Other nationalities use it too.
